Finland secured the third place on the global Social Progress Index published by the Social Progress Imperative, a Washington-based NGO, on Friday.

Norway topped the index with a score of 92.73 points, while Denmark became second obtaining 92.11 points.

Finland scored 91.89 points and ranked third, followed by New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Iceland, and the Netherlands.

South Sudan was at the bottom of the list with a score of 31.06 points, followed by Chand, Central African Republic, Eritrea, Somalia, and Burundi.

The Social Progress index included 163 countries from across the world and measured 50 different variables that affect social development and wellbeing.

The variables were divided into three main categories- basic human needs, foundations of wellbeing, and opportunity.

The ranking evaluated that Finland was one of the most socially developed countries in the world based on various aspects, including water and sanitation, access to basic knowledge, shelter, nutrition, basic medical care, and access to information.

However, Finland did not perform well in metrics such as greenhouse gas emissions.
