An elderly-care residence in Jyväskylä was ravaged by fire on Friday, reported the local media.

Fire-extinguishing work was still in progress on Saturday; however, most of the fire was contained, reported a Finnish language daily, Savon Sanomat, quoting the news agency STT.

Central Finland Rescue Department Chief Fire Fighter Pauli Nurminen said the fire started shortly before 11 PM on Friday. There were about 20 rescue units at the scene.

Nurminen said around 150 people were evacuated from the building. Three of the evacuated persons exposed to smoke were examined at the scene.

According to Nurminen, the fire broke out from a balcony on the top floor of the building.
