A hand grenade was found at a Finnish Red Cross (FRC) shop in Oulu on Saturday.

The explosive disposal technicians recovered the grenade from the shop and took it for further investigation, police said.

“The Defense Forces recovered the grenade from the shop. The grenade will be examined extensively in a safe place of the Defense Forces,” said Oulu police in a twitter post written in Finnish.

The police, however, said that at the initial stage it is not possible to ascertain whether the grenade contains explosive material.

The grenade was found in the goods donated by the people to the Red Cross for sale at the Kontti charity thrift shop.

Oulu Police Commissioner Juha Niemelä told national broadcaster Yle that it was not clear whether the grenade was functional or even genuine, although it looks like a real hand grenade.

Quoting a Red Cross official, Yle said that the shop was closed following the incident.

In the past Finnish Red Cross facilities came under attack and targeted by anti-immigration activists, including a lawmaker of opposition Perussuomalaiset, who opposed to the role of Red Cross to shelter refugees in Finland, according Yle.
