1 killed, 2 police injured in Espoo building blast

One person was killed and two police officials were injured in a blast at an apartment building at Mäkkylä area in Espoo on late Monday night.
The incident took place at about 8:45 pm when the members of the law enforcing agency rushed to the spot responding to a call, said a police press release on Tuesday.
Police said that the deceased, a 41 years old person was suspected of targeting two police officers in an attempted homicide.
The wounded police officers were taken to the hospital and later released after first aid.
“The explosion was followed by an operation that lasted for several hours. …Police evacuated the building during the operation and found a man who born in 1979 dead,” NBI detective chief inspector Olli Töyräs said, adding that the deceased was suspected of attempted murder of the police officers.
The investigation is at an early stage now and it is not possible to speculate on a motive of the incident, Olli Töyräs said.
The police operation at the building ended early Tuesday and later opened for the residents to return to their homes.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is investigating into the reasons behind the death and the explosion.
