Conscripts were injured as two military transport vehicles collided near Kemijärvi, eastern Lapland, on Tuesday evening, media reported.

Local media said there were all 28 people on the two vehicles, and 12 were taken to the Lapland central hospital and 15 to a military health facility at the Sarriojärvi military area. The defense forces told the media that no one was seriously injured.

A Finnish language newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported the first vehicle tried to avert a reindeer on the highway, but as a result the vehicle coming after crashed on it.

The accident occurred on a highway. The vehicles were participating in a local defense maneuver.
