51% Finns against joining NATO: Survey

More than fifty percent of Finns are opposed to joining North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), according to a latest survey commissioned by local dailies Maaseudun Tulevaisuus and Hufvudstadsblade.

The survey showed that 51 percent of Finns are opposed to joining NATO,while on the other hand, 26 percent of the respondents support joining of the alliance.

Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) supporters are most opposed to joining NATO with 69 percent of their supporters opposed to joining the alliance.

The supporters of Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) are most supportive of joining NATO with 57 percent of Kokoomus supports in favour of joining.

The survey was conducted by Kantar TNS at the beginning of June on 1,106 people aged 15-74. The margin of error in the survey is +/-3 percent.
