18 killed in road mishaps in May

At least 18 people were killed and 407 others injured in road accidents across the country in May, according the Statistics Finland.

A total of 339 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May.

The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured was 134 lower than that in May 2018.

Of the persons who were killed, nine travelled by private cars, two by motorcycles and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered one and cyclists five. Among those who died, 14 were men and four women.

A total of 1,368 road accidents involving personal injuries took place in January to May. Of them, 75 persons were killed and 1,746 sustained injuries.
