Finland's birth rate still low in Jan, 2019

A total of 3,846 children were born in January in 2019, which was 217 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2018.

The number of deaths was 4,807, which was 118 lower than one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

Finland's population was 5,521,236 at the end of January. Country's population, however, was increased by 370 persons during January. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 1,331. The number of births was 961 lower than that of deaths.

According to the preliminary statistics for January, 2,334 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 1,003 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 450 lower and the number of emigrants 547 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 652 of the immigrants and 697 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
