Sinikka Rajaniemi re-appointed Fimea DG

The government on Thursday re-appointed Sinikka Rajaniemi as the Director-General of the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea), said an official press release.

She will take up the position on 1 May 2017. The appointment is for a fixed period until 30 September 2018.

Rajaniemi has been working as Fimea’s Director-General since 2009. During 2004–2009 she worked as Chief Pharmaceutical Officer and Director at the Pharmaceuticals Pricing Board that operates in connection with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

The Director-General leads the activities of Fimea, is responsible for achieving the performance targets set for the agency, and ensures that the agency’s duties are managed effectively, economically and successfully. The Director-General monitors the development of Fimea’s field of activity and is in charge of the general development of the agency.

A total of 16 candidates applied for the post as the Director-General of Fimea this year.

The Finnish Medicines Agency is a central agency under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. It promotes public health and safety by supervising medicinal products and blood and tissue products as well as by developing the pharmaceuticals field.
