One in every 12 revellers in Finland plans to drink heavily during the upcoming pre-Christmas celebrations, found a recent survey conducted by the Sunnuntaisuomalainen, a Sunday paper jointly published by four regional dailies.

According to the survey findings, 8 per cent of the respondents are planning to drink heavily during the pre-Christmas party compared to 31 per cent who plan to take alcohol moderately. On the other hand, a quarter of the respondents are not planning to drink at all.

Finns are taking a more measured approach to pre-Christmas celebrations as it is with the case of other Finnish celebrations as well, according to researchers.

The survey examined subjective drinking and not the actual amount of alcohol consumed. The respondents were asked whether they thought this year was the most important pre-Christmas party and how heavy they are planning to drink.

A thousand people took part in the survey conducted at the end of November.
