3 more deaths, 244 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The country’s coronavirus death toll has reached 911 as three more patients- two in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 86, 405 as 244 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 4,716. Of them, 4,022 are UK variants, 693 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 594 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 99 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 82 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 80 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 56 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 133 coronavirus patients, including 33 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,560 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
