3 more deaths, 286 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 877 as three more people- two in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) and another in Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 82,564 as 286 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 3,621. Of them, 3,261 were UK variants, 359 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 568 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 97 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 80 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 77 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 55 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 182 coronavirus patients, including 38 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,491 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
