4 more deaths, 426 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The total coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 866 as four more people- three in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one in Turku Hospital District (TYKS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 80,842, as 426 new cases were diagnosed in the previous 24 hours.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 2,700. Of them, 2,474 were UK variants, 225 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 563 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 93 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 80 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 76 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 54 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 235 coronavirus patients, including 42 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,460 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
