14 more deaths,1,962 coronavirus infections spotted in 5 days

The total number of coronavirus deaths in the country has reached 860 as 14 more people died in different hospitals in the last five days since Thursday afternoon, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Tuesday.

Of the deaths, nine were reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), three in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and two in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 80,068, as 1,962 new cases were diagnosed in the last five days.

Of the new cases, 566 infections were diagnosed on Friday, 422 on Saturday, 302 on Sunday, 341 on Monday, and 331 on Tuesday, said the THL.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 2,700. Of them, 2,474 were UK variants, 225 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 557 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 93 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 80 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 76 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 54 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 249 coronavirus patients, including 45 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,446 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
