Four patients were infected with coronavirus at ward number 12 meant for acute geriatrics and rehabilitation in Malmi Hospital, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Wednesday.

All 25 patients at the ward have been exposed to the virus.

The infections have been detected from March 19 to 28.

Staff members, however, were not infected.

As a precautionary measure, the ward has been closed down now, while no new patient is being taken into the ward.

“The infections have been found during a long period. We want to suppress the epidemic by closing the ward and doing extensive testing,” said Helsinki Hospital Services Medical Director Laura Pikkarainen, adding that all the patients at the ward were tested and will be tested again later.

Malmi Hospital is one of the units at the Helsinki City Hospital. Malmi Hospital has wards and 125 beds in total.
