2 more deaths, 512 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 817 as two more patients died in Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 74, 754 as 512 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 2,584. Out of them, 2,403 were UK variants, 180 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 530 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 86 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 69 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 53 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 313 coronavirus patients, including 59 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,350 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
