1 more death, 640 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 809 as one more patient died in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS) in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 72, 713 as 640 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remains at 1,963. Out of them, 1,823 were UK variants, 139 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 525 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 84 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 68 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 53 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 302 coronavirus patients, including 64 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,313 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
