3 more deaths, 704 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 767 as three more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.

Out of the deaths, two were reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) while the rest one was reported in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 60,904 as 704 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours, said the THL report.

The total number of the coronavirus variants increased to 1, 295 in the country. Out of the cases 1,223 were UK variants, 71 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 502 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 81 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 64 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS) and 41 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 239 coronavirus patients, including 38 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1100 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
