Fourteen more cases of infection with the new coronavirus variant have been diagnosed in the country, said the National Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) on Monday.

So far, a total of 17 cases of the new variant have been diagnosed.

Previously, three cases of the new variant of coronavirus strains that have been rapidly spreading in the United Kingdom and South Africa were detected. The cases are related to persons who had mainly travelled abroad to the UK and elsewhere between 7 and 20 December 2020.

All the new cases reported have been detected in Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso regions. On 20 December 2020, following a statement issued by the THL, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) decided to put an immediate stop to passenger flights from the UK to Finland.
