The trial of freedom of choice in dispatching social and health services will come to an end in autumn, said a bulletin of the national social insurance institution Kela.

But clients will continue to avail private health care and receive reimbursement for medical expenses even after the end of the trial. Kela will reimburse part of the private health care cost as compensation under the health insurance legislation. Reimbursement will be made for necessary medical expenses.

Funded and coordinated by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the freedom of choice of experiment was launched in 2017.

During the trial, 10 areas were tested on the freedom of choice for social and health services. The voucher offered acted as an alternative to the services produced or purchased by the municipality itself.
