French police on Tuesday arrested six people on suspicion of planning "violent action" against President Emmanuel Macron, news channel BFMTV reported.

The group, including a female suspect, were suspected of undertaking "imprecise and loosely-formed" plan to attack the 40-year-old head of state, it added, citing source close to the probe.

French security forces carried out raids in Isere, southeast France, Moselle, on the border with Germany and in the northwestern city of Ille-et-Vilaine.

Aged between 20 and 60 years, the suspects were believed to be member of the far-right movement, according to the report.

The arrest was part of a preliminary probe into "association of criminal terrorists."
