Poland not to change no-refugee policy: ministers

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski and Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said Thursday that the country will not change the no-refugee policy.

Waszczykowski said that Poland's position towards European Union's (EU) decision on refugee relocation remains clear, that is unchanged for two years when EU implemented its refugee policy.

Earlier on Thursday European Commission (EC) filed charges to the Court of Justice of EU against Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary in connection with their failure to comply with the plan, which ordains the EU members to admit fixed refugee quotas.

Waszczykowski said in a statement that Poland is ready to defend its stand before the Court of Justice of EU.

Mariusz Blaszczak, interior minister, confirmed that Poland will not take into consideration the previous cabinet's declarations when ruling Civic Platform-Polish People's Party agreed to admit around 7,000 Syrian people from refugee camps located in Italy and Greece.

He said "practice has shown that the relocation system is a failure," adding the country's security remains the most important.

In September 2015, EU Council decided to relocate 120,000 refugees. It was accepted with a majority of votes. But the Czech Republic and Hungary opposed the quota-based relocation. Poland and Hungary refused to let in refugees under this regulation.
