Russian police have shot dead a teenager who attempted to set fire to a local police department and attack law enforcers in Russia's Tatarstan Republic on Friday, reported Xinhua.

A police officer noticed a fire on the ground and glass shards while parking an official car near the police department in the Kukmorsky District, a local branch of the Russian Interior Ministry said in a statement.

"While the fire was being extinguished, an unknown person threw another bottle, presumably with a combustible mixture inside, through the fence in the direction of the parking lot. Then the attacker tried to escape," it said.

Police officers caught the attacker, a local resident born in 2004, who resisted and stabbed one of the policemen with a knife.

Law enforcement officers fired multiple warning shots before they finally shot at the attacker, who died before an ambulance arrived.

The wounded officer has been hospitalized for non-fatal injuries, while the motive of the attacker remains unknown.
