Eurozone retail trade goes up by 5.7% in June

The seasonally-adjusted volume of retail trade increased by 5.7 percent in the euro area in June and by 5.2 percent in the wider European Union (EU) compared with May 2020, Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, said on Wednesday.

The volume of retail trade of automotive fuels rose by 20.4 percent in the euro area and 16.9 percent in the EU, followed by non-food products, up by 12.1 percent in the eurozone and 10.6 percent in the EU reported Xinhua.

Among EU members for which data are available, Ireland (+21.9 percent), Spain (+16.5 percent) and Italy (+13.8 percent) recorded the highest monthly increase in total retail trade volume.

Earlier, a positive sign showed in May 2020, when the retail trade volume increased by 20.3 percent in the euro area and by 18.3 percent in the EU. It means that the retail in both the eurozone and the whole EU have returned to the levels recorded in February, before the start of COVID-19 containment measures.
