Sweden's Malmo police on Thursday morning raided several homes and arrested five people on suspicion of drug offenses and involvement in setting off explosions.

"We have taken a number of investigative measures against criminals, including home raids," police spokeswoman Ewa-Gun Westford told Swedish newspaper Kvallsposten.

Last week, illegal explosives were detonated at several locations across Malmo, including Drottningtorget, Sofielund and Almgarden. Police announced shortly afterward that they would investigate the explosions.

"There will be crime prevention efforts against these people who are behind the blasts," Malmo chief of police Stefan Sinteus told Swedish news SVT.

Over 70 such blasts occurred in southern Sweden during the past 12 months, according to SVT.

According to information provided to SVT, two brothers based in Malmo have been identified as responsible for a significant number of violent incidents, including deaths caused by the blasts.
