Three people were killed and another one was seriously injured on Monday evening in a shooting incident in the Dutch city of Dordrecht, Rotterdam police said on Twitter.

The incident took place in a house. Dordrecht mayor Wouter Kolff spoke of a "very serious" shooting incident and said he would visit the house later.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to the police.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that it was a family tragedy, in which a police officer allegedly killed his two children, severely wounded his wife before taking his own life in his own home. He was reportedly going through divorce with his wife.

Emergency services arrived at the spot around 6:30 p.m. local time after being notified about an incident.
