European integration remains top priority for Ukraine:PM

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said here on Tuesday that closer ties with the European Union (EU) remain a top priority for his country, the Ukrainian government press service said.

"European integration and active implementation of the Association Agreement are the number one priority for us in terms of political and economic cooperation," Groysman said during his meeting with visiting European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

For his part, Hahn mentioned the progress Ukraine has made in implementing reforms, urging Kiev to continue the implementation of anti-corruption initiatives and the modernization of the justice system.

In 2014, when pro-West authorities came to power in Ukraine, Kiev abandoned its multilateral policy and set a course toward European integration.

In 2017, the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which includes a free trade deal and a broad range of legislation and regulation topics, came into full force.

Under the agreement, Ukraine has undertaken a commitment to implement a number of political, administrative and economic reforms.
