Helsinki Varsity climbs further on QS Rankings

The University of Helsinki has been ranked as the world’s 104th best university on the QS World University Rankings 2021 released on Wednesday.

The ranking has seen the university rise three notches from last year when it was placed at 107th and six places from two years back when it was placed 110th.

According to the list, the University of Helsinki secured first position in Finland followed by Aalto University (127th) and University of Turku (287th).

Nine Finnish universities were among the best ranked 1,000 universities in the world.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is named the world’s number-one for the ninth consecutive year, followed by Stanford University, Harvard University, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), the University of Oxford, ETH Zurich (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology),the University of Cambridge, and the Imperial College London.

Ranking uses six indicators to compile the ranking – academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

The QS Ranking is among the most recognised international rankings. It ranks one thousand universities from 82 different locations.
