The University of Helsinki has been named the world’s 107th best university, according to the QS World University Rankings.

The ranking has seen the University of Helsinki rise 3 places from last year when it was placed 110th, said a press release issued by the university.

According to the list, University of Helsinki secured first position in Finland, fourth in Nordic countries and 36th in Europe.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is named the world number-one for the eighth consecutive year followed by Stanford University, Harvard University, University of Oxford, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) and University of Cambridge.

QS use six indicators to compile the ranking: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

As for the individual ranking indicators, the University of Helsinki saw an improvement in academic and employer reputation as well as in citations per faculty, which indicates research impact. There was a decrease in the indicators for faculty/student ratio and international faculty and student ratio.

The QS Ranking is among the most recognized international rankings. QS rank a thousand universities from 82 different locations.
