Real estate maintenance costs raise by 2.6%

Real estate maintenance costs went up by 2.6 per cent in the last quarter of 2018 compared to the corresponding period of 2017, according to Statistics Finland.

Of the cost items of the index of real estate maintenance, electricity costs increased most, by 7.6 per cent.

Renovation costs grew second most, by 3.1 per cent. Heating costs went up by 2.7 per cent, costs of waste management by 2.3 per cent, costs of maintenance of outdoor areas by 1.6 per cent, use and maintenance costs by 1.1 per cent, and cleaning costs by 0.9 per cent. Water supply and sewage costs rose by 0.4 per cent and administration costs by 0.3 per cent from the year before.

Examined by building type, the maintenance costs of industrial buildings went up most, by 3.9 per cent. The costs of wholesale and retail trade buildings rose by 3.1 per cent, those of office buildings by 2.9 per cent, those of day care centres and the school buildings by 2.4 per cent. The maintenance costs of health care centres went up by 2.3 per cent and those of residential blocks of flats by 2.1 per cent year-on-year.
