Finland’s trade deficit drops to €285m in Feb

The country’s trade deficit narrowed to 285 million euros in February 2018 from 295 million euros in the same month in 2017, according to the preliminary statistics provided by the Finnish Customs.

Calculated in January to February the trade deficit was 445 million euros compared to that of 835 million euros in the corresponding period last year, said a press release on Monday.

According to the preliminary statistics on international trade in goods and services showed that the value of Finnish exports increased by nine per cent and the value of imports by eight per cent in February year on year.

The value of Finnish exports in February was almost 4.8 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 5.1 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports increased by 11 per cent and imports by six per cent.

Exports to EU member states increased by seven per cent in February and exports to non-EU countries by 12 per cent. Imports from both EU and non-EU countries increased by eight per cent in February.

Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU increased by nine per cent and to non-EU countries by 14 per cent. During the same period imports from EU member states rose by nine per cent and from other countries by two per cent.
