50,064 motor vehicles first registered in Q1

A total of 17,270 new motor vehicles including 13,566 automobiles were registered in March this year, reports the Statistics Finland.

The number of first registrations of motor vehicles in the month posted a 4.9 per cent decline year on year.

The number of new private cars registered in the month was 11,721, posting a 4.5 per cent rise year on year. Diesel-driven private cars accounted for 23.5 per cent of the newly registered private cars.

In January to March, a total of 50,064 vehicles were first registered, marking a 0.4 per cent decline from that in the first quarter of 2017. The number of private cars first registered in the quarter was 34,413 or 3.9 per cent more than that in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

The most common passenger car brands first registered in the first quarter were Toyota, Volkswagen and Skoda.
