Wages, salaries sum fall by 4.4% in Q2

The wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 4.4 per cent lower in the April to June period than in the corresponding period of last year, according to the Statistics Finland.

In June, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy decreased by 2.9 per cent from one year ago.

One year previously, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy increased by 3.9 per cent.

The exceptional situation caused by coronavirus had an effect on the development of the wages and salaries sum.

The wages and salaries sum in the private sector was 6.4 per cent lower in April to June than twelve months earlier.

The wages and salaries sum of the public sector was 1.8 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of 2019.

In June, the wages and salaries sum decreased by 5.7 per cent in the private sector and grew by 5.3 per cent in the public sector from one year earlier. In the April to June period one year ago, the wages and salaries sum grew by 4.3 per cent in the private sector and by 4.0 per cent in the public sector from the year before.
