Cargo traffic operations remain continue mostly normally at the Vuosaari Harbour of Helsinki Port despite the present situation of coronavirus outbreak.

The operators and the ship traffic of shipping companies will go as per the schedule, said a press release of the Port of Helsinki.

Cargo traffic also continues in the parts of the Port located in the city centre, even though passenger traffic has practically stopped altogether.

Internal border controls started on 19 March 2020, which means that border guards check the direct lorry traffic arriving on ships.

At Vuosaari Harbour, ship traffic will operate according to schedule. As an exception to normal circumstances, Tallink’s ship Sea Wind on the Vuosaari–Muuga route currently transports cargo only.

Eckerö Line’s ship Finbo Cargo is currently in dock, but it is expected to resume operations during the first week of April.

In the city centre harbours, some of the RoPax ships in liner traffic have been laid up from normal operation.

However, Viking XPRS, Tallink Megastar and Eckerö Line MS Finlandia will all transport cargo between Helsinki and Tallinn.

The staff the Port of Helsinki have primarily moved to remote working. Additionally, all events have been cancelled or postponed.

“We are offering our normal services to our cargo customers. Operative personnel are on-site as needed. We are doing our part to secure Finland’s imports and exports, even during these exceptional times,” said Jukka Kallio, the Port’s director in charge of cargo traffic.
